Each day of our life we waste lots of gold. Well as I can remember someone has said that " time is gold". So how come we waste this much of time? Just think about it. How many hours do we waste in buses, trains or in traffic jams per a day? How much time we spend thinking about our dreams that haven't come true still?Being exhausted by working or something else how much of time we spend letting your mind wander where ever it feels like going?
The sad thing is all this time we are living in a university; a place full of resources even without knowing it. We have all sorts of knowledge around us. The knowledge we can use for betterment of our and others' lives. God has stored it in different forms. And he checks whether we are awoken enough to identify those sources, whether we are talented enough to absorb the knowledge that has been hidden. And if we are smart enough to locate this hidden treasure, he award us gifts that are really worth, success that we dream of. Let's see what these sources are.
Our experiences
Each day, we live our life through some incidents cause disappointments, frustrations as well as happiness. Despite they grieve our heart or make us happy, they become our experiences ultimately as they add to the book of history.
But these experiences become beams of light we are in darkness sometimes, when we feel lost among several options or when we are in a dilemma with a confused mind. If we can be opened enough to our past experiences, we can see the lessons lie beneath them which are capable of helping us out.
"Learn the past, watch the present and create future"
We can analyze our experiences. We can see the points where we have failed or which brought us misfortune. Once we see them, we can find the reasons for them. In that way we can use them to deal with our day to day life in a way which is quite useful.
Actually that's one of the reasons for elders being respected in the society. They have gone through lots of things in life and by their experiences they can see things deeper.
Learn about the people who are around
Some of us think that they do not have to deal with people much because their jobs are different. I think they are wrong.
People who do businesses or jobs in fields like human resources management have to connect with the people directly. But if you are doing a job in some technical field then also you have to deal with the people because you are recruited by them and your products are finally use by them. And in our life we all have to move and deal with people. So the knowledge of successfully dealing with people and understanding of their behaviors are really useful to all of us.
Dealing with people, it's like both science and an art. Some one can tell you that people are like this and that. But if you want to swim, you have to get into the pool. That means we have to learn about them by dealing with them.
Most of the times we are surrounded by people. At our work places, in our schools, in the road and in the market place we have to move with them.
So why don't we use these opportunities to learn about them? Why don't we observe them closely during the times we waste by day dreaming? Listen to them and pay them your attention. Let them feel that they are special. You'll unveil the wonders of human behaviors and you'll have the keys to their hearts.
Learn from the people who are around
People who are around us are like closed books that are walking. You must open them up and read. You'll gain a huge knowledge. Because after living this life up to here they must be rich in various kinds of experiences and knowledge.
I can remember the days that I used to listen to my grandpa on a sofa in the living room. He was closing to 90th flag and his stories about his younger age were always full of wonders and colors. In those days as a teenager I enjoyed them. But its now only I realize the knowledge about life which stored in each one of those stories.
Books and time
Books are the best friends that we can ever have. They can leave us wiser and experienced than the people we used to be when we start reading.
All of us have heard about the great Russian writer 'Maxim Gorky'. Unlike other children who were at his age, he didn't get a chance to get a school education. He had to pass a childhood which was full of miseries. He worked hard, harder than most of us can imagine to make a living. So how come he became one of the greatest writers and a thinker that world has ever seen? Books. His habits of reading books and learning from the people he met did the magic for him.

Make the best use of your time. Read as much as possible. It increases your ability to concentrate while booming your knowledge. If you think you don't have enough time since you are busy, do this simple exercise.
Take a piece of paper and write down the useful things that you have done through out the day. And try to put the time duration for each of those task approximately. Add the number of hours you slept and add the durations of your meals also. Then subtract the total from 24. You'll see the number of hours you have wasted.
Finally we can come to the conclusion that if we want to learn, there are lots of resources always. So I think I've proved my words above. Let's be mindful and let's learn.

Hi Vikum
Wow, very insightful and so much to ponder on.
I have to be honest, I have always heard and resonated with the idea that this Earth is like an "elementary school". But I so see your points about how and why it can be viewed as a University.
We do have so many amazing resources at our fingertips to become all that and more. But most of us are barely showing up for class it seems. Perhaps we are not taking this "University" seriously.
And I love your point about reading, I think it is fantastic to expand ones views of the world in that way and embrace so many different view points too!
Hi Evita,
A close friend and a good reader of mine suggested writing something on this subject. That's how this post came up actually. And I have experimented all of the things above and have got great results.
Yeah. We all have these amazing resources around. And the sad thing is most of us do not turn up for classes as you have said. And about the reading, I believe it expands one's ability to see things from different angles.
Evita,Thanks for taking time to read and comment. It's so nice to see your here on this Sunday :)
I work in a massive library that is essentially all the university you could ever hope for, assuming that you were curious and wanted to keep learning.
But nothing circulates more than DVDs of reality shows and professional wrestling.
If there is a secret to my own happiness, it is that a day without studying something feels as wrong as a day when I haven't brushed my teeth. This is a wonderful post about a profound subject that I see dwindling every day I go into work.
It's good knowing that you're out there and that you're still learning!
Hi Josh,
hehe.... yeah Josh.I've heard it from someone and it's pretty funny. But its true.
If all of us feel in the same way you do about the days we haven't learn anything then the world will be filled with enthusiastic people who are looking forward to get better by learning.
Thanks a lot my friend !
vikum, it is hard to see what did you mean by "useful" things. You really have to define that. because, the word "usefullness" depends on the context, so what is useful to you not necessarily be useful to me.
basically you haven't put a frame of reference.
nice work btw....bravo...:)
Hey Dumma,
Exactly that's why I didn't define that 'usefulness'.Because usefulness depends on the context and context depend on the person. so simply take it to be the things which drive you to your goals or dreams directly or indirectly.
Thanks a lot for taking time to read and comment. You are warmly welcome to the ' Thinking Park' !
This is one of the most interesting and true things anyne has ever written, and deeply poetic too...
"People who are around us are like closed books that are walking. You must open them up and read. You'll gain a huge knowledge."
What a lesson!
And another good lesson in Gorky and how books built him up. I so agree with that.
Vikum, if I look at my last 24 hours I'd see sleep, getting the child to school, them mostly reclining today and reading blogs, leaving comments. Not perhaps as "productive" day as yesterday when I was creating songs. But perhaps making these connections today with like-minded souls has added some value to lives, somewhere!
Great to "see" you again and read your insightful words!xo
Jannie,
Thanks a lot for your kind words.
Yeah. Definitely.Making connections with like minded souls make us learn as well as make us enjoy the life. When I visit yours and other friends' blogs. It gives me an immense pleasure every time and I learn from you as well. These values they add to our lives will be useful to us in somewhere.
And you'll "see" me again and again :)
Thanks again Jannie ! xo
Vikum -- I liked this post and the idea of life being a University. I loved what you said about God storing knowledge "in different forms" and how it up to us to be aware enough to find and absorb that knowledge.
You are very right about people being books that we need to open. It so easy to just go about life and not explore the people and other life around us. I agree that this a mistake.
Personally, I think nature provides some of my best lessons. I just went outside and took pictures of my trees sprouting new flowers with the old leaves still hanging on. For me, this is such an expression of the continuity of life...a great lesson for me to learn.
Thanks for this post:~)
Vikum,
I really think that life, people, things around us can teach so much. I feel that our elders have lot to teach us, only if we listen to them. We learn from life much more than what we sometimes learn from college or university.
Sara,
I'm glad you liked that.
Nature is a good teacher indeed.Nice to hear that you are such a observer. Though there are lots of things happening around us, many of the people do not pay much attention. Yeah. It's a great lesson about continuity.
Thanks a lot for stopping by ! :)
Zengirl,
Agree with you.'only if we listen to them' and most of the times people do not think that paying some attention to what they say will be useful. Learn from life is totally a practical process. That's why we always can remember those lessons.
Life is all lessons. In order for us to grow, we should grab each moment to learn something about people and things, and you have provided here some excellent sources. My best source has always been books. :-)
Excellent! You make us aware about the time we are not using, in a different way. So, Let’s Learn...
:)
@Walter - Yeah.If we want to grow, we must continue to
learn.Growth is not just a physical thing but
to continue to improve in every aspect. To be
honest, my one also books :)
@Kasun - Thanks a lot and yeah. Let's learn :)
Just passing through again, and wishing you a happy day!!
xo
Happy day to you too Jannie ! :)
