Living in the moment

my favorite photo.jpgHave you ever honked the horn grumpily and cursed to yourself and other people and the government whilst stuck in a traffic jam? Well if the answer is 'Yes' , this post is just for you. There are sometimes that we can do nothing against the situation we face.

There's a little story.Once a man was walking across a jungle for some reason and suddenly he came across a tiger which went infuriated by seeing him.So the tiger jumped on him but barely missed him under salivary jaws.Peaceful walk turned into a run for the sake of life and tiger was right behind snarling ferociously.Poor fellow was at his maximum speed and cold sweat was running through his back created by the fatality of the moment. His foot slipped suddenly and in the next moment he was falling into something bit dark inside. He hit something and he reached for it from a single hand.It was a root of a tree which were leaned towards the pit and now he was swinging somewhat below from the opening of the pit.

So what about the tiger?Unfortunately it was kinda positive thinker.Though somewhat disappointed, it didn't leave him.It was on the verge of the pit grumbling from his throat. (maybe it was scolding at his destiny for taking his chances away from him like most of us do :) ) But still it hadn't given up hopes about the party. It was trying to clench and pull him up by using his stalwart paw.

And by that moment man's eyes were getting use to the darkness inside. It was an abandoned well which was out of water and he looked down intending to jump there. Oh Gosh!  What was there? A huge snake which were coiling to attack him as soon as he landed. He bit the tongue through his clenched teeth and tightened the grip and now he was shimmering from the utmost fear. Blood circulation was raising under his veins. And then he saw something which left his hair straightened. Two mice had started to countdown his last seconds on earth by starting to cut that root away. And there's a bee hive in a lair of a tree and some honey was leaking through the root he was hanging on.

One death was ready to give him a warm welcome by its sharp teeth,on the verge of the well and the other death was summoning him from down by hissings. So can you guess the thing he did?Did he blame god saying " WTF? Can't you see what's happening to me?". No.He said nothing like that.Instead of that what he did was licking the honey which were leaking and said " Hmm....Yummy....".

Well that's the end of the story.Whether you like it or not it's the story of all of us in real life. We can do nothing against some of the disasters we are facing. But still we can taste our life.Needless to worry about anything because our worries can't change things.Would that tiger go away if that man cried? But still we can't give up our hopes.Who knows what will happen in the future. What if that tiger tries to jump on him and ends up with crash with the snake which would have caused  to death of both of them?So the man will be able to climb up to his life again. No one can predict future.

So this story gives us a lesson for a happier life.We don't need to worry about uncontrollable things which happen in our life.Because it's a waste of time which remains us to enjoy and feel the life.

Don't blame at anything when you stuck in a traffic jam.Try to listen to a song or just open up the cubby hole and grab some chocolates.See how simple it is?

If our souls are strong enough to live right in this moment despite all the storms which rumbling from distance we will live a better life, a happier life someone will dream of.

This post is inspired by a preaching by Ajan Brahmawanso Thera.

Wow nicely written..
Is this the feeling which drives me to watch movies whole day knowing that i'll screw up at maths quiz next day?
he he
This gives many of us insight.. food for thought.

Wow, your story had me at the edge of my seat. And the message of the story were fantastic. No matter what we are up against and how bad things might look, we can always choose to find something good to be thankful for and never forget life is beautiful and we should never give up.
Thank you,
Giovanna Garcia
Imperfect Action is better than No Action

Hi Keheliya,
Nice to see you again.Good luck with your maths quiz.

Hi Giovanna,
You are warmly welcome to here and I'm really glad you've liked it.Absolutely yes.Every time we can find something to be thankful for and I'm totally agree with you for the idea of never giving up.Because until the last minute we don't know what will happen and it's always worth to keep holding on.

Vikum, thank you for the great story! It's a powerful reminder of how we should have gratitude and always make the most of the moment. I have to admit, I do get impatient in traffic sometimes. Maybe I should print up a copy of this story and keep it in the cubby hole. ;-)

Thank you for sharing this.

Hi Vikum,

Thanks for sharing this beautiful story. It is a powerful reminder that we should have gratitude for life and always try to make the most of the moment.

I must confess - I sometimes forget this when I am sitting in traffic. ;-)

Hi Michael,
Actually simple stories can broaden our minds and improve our lives. You are honest to confess but me too could have done that if I have a car ;).When once we start to enjoy the simple things in our lives we automatically forget to worry about the things we don't want to worry at all and we can't change from worrying.
Thanks for taking your time to comment.

Hi Vikum - a good reminder that in many situations we are stressing about we are actually fine at the present moment - the things we are worrying about may never happen. Good story!

Hi Vikum,

Great post. I agree with you. Life is so short and we need to appreciate the blessings we have. I know it can be hard in moments of frustration but there is always something to be grateful about in life.

Hi Robin,
Absolutely yes.If we can live without worrying the things which never happened, we will possess a happier life.
Thanks for visiting :)

Hi Nadia,
Yeah. There's always something to be happy about and the talent of finding it is the thing we need to improve. When you find out that something to be happy in moments of frustrations also you'll be fine.

I like stories like this one. Yummy ;)
It resonates with my take on things in life. I do not waste my time and energy on what's not under my control. I just accept it and move on. I also try to not invest my time and energy in everything that is under my control, but only in stuff that matters.
Good stuff.

Viks,
I've been in traffic jams before and sometimes i felt like taking an Ariel route. That's because I was into some serious business and the block was gonna mess it up.
But then again at times I've enjoyed traffic, simply because it's a great challenge of (Specially in Colombo) sneaking through, finding by-roads, figure out the fast moving lane and stuff :)
So definitely, at times we do worry, and I think we have to, but we need to find solutions on that too! because however we say that we must enjoy the current situation, we must have a distant view of what we are up to :)

anyways u can also say that the man in the story would not have tasted that honey if all these had not happened, therefore these things also have a bright side to our lives
:D

Vikum,

What a great story. All too often we see only the darkness of our crisis and not see what's blooming in that darkness. I believe there's always something to gain, learn, and/or realize from our darker moments. I'm glad the bees made that honey and that it dripped down on the root for the man to appreciate it's wonderful taste. Thanks :~)

Hi Alik,
Yeah.Me too..hehe... Absolutely yes. That's what we need to do and I'm really happy for you.But doing so is not that easy and we need to keep trying on.Otherwise our previous habits invade us easily. Thanks a lot.

Hi Pranavan,
yeah I know how you drive.hehe... :)

yeah.I agree.I know you are looking at things from different angles and it's really great. As you've said if it's not happened that man couldn't taste that honey. That's why people say "everything happens for a reason." :) .
Have a great day!

Hi Sara,
yeah.Me too believe so.If we can gain the ability to see the chances that are coming or things we have left, we can fight our grieves and sorrows and posses a better, happier life.

Have a great day!

Hi Vikum,

Your post is a great reminder that although life may present obstacles and challenges, it's truly about how we react to the situations that's most important. There is always a sunny side to every situation, even if it's not clear at first.

Like Giovanna, your post had me in suspense. I enjoyed the lesson within it. The simple truth to living happier! Thanks for sharing. :-)

Many Blessings....
